Before the war started the French had very good fur trading businesses in the colonies. When they moved into the Ohio River Valley they were trying to establish another fur trading post. The French military force led the Indians into battle because they knew how the British fought and could counter better than the inexperienced Indians. When the war started they were able to take the upper hand because of the lack of seriousness on the British side of the war. The French were hardened soldiers and would not go down, especially to the British, without a fight.

First defeat or Greatest Victory?George Washington was sent to the French forces with a letter asking them to vacate the River Valley. The French refused and so a year later Washington returned and fired the first shots of the war. Washington's troops overcame a scouting group early on May 28, 1754. However, the young General Washington became the leader of the forces to expel the British forces 20 years later. He, along with his allies the French, erased the British army from the colonies.

Final StandAlthough the French fought hard the war took a dramatic turn for the worst. It all came to an end at the Battle of Montreal. The French forces guarding the city were incredibly outnumbered and had no chance of keeping the city. The French surrendered and so the last battle in the Americas was over. The British had defeated the french and Indians.

Marquis DuquesneMarquis Duquesne was the governor and general of New France in the Americas. Feeling the threat of British forces, he built many forts from Lake Erie to the Ohio River valley. His forts held strong, even against British General Braddock. Fort Duquesne was the last of these forts and is located in present day Pittsburgh is.
